Comments: AHNet,
My name is Josh Brown and I am the editor of a gaming trade journal called Gaming Products & Services. My recent email to you bounced back with a message about spam. I assure you I have no interest in your bank account numbers or selling you an adult website. I was simply trying to send the appropriate forms for a free listing in our 2002 Buyer's Guide. We are located in the states and I was having dialing internationally to fax the forms. I apologize for the inconvience, but please do not block my ip.
Thanks,
Josh Brown

Sending me an unsolicited email for gaming products and services contravenes NSW State Laws. You must be registered with the State Government to promote such services anyway.

Considering I have no idea who you are, and I certainly didn't give you my e-mail address requesting any Gaming Services and Products or a listing in any directory, you clearly constitute a contravention of SPAM rules.

Perhaps you can blame that on people who waste network resources and just make us all fed up with the crap we get every day. This morning alone I have had to add another 26 servers to the block lists. That's 26 e-mail messages wasting 18 minutes of my time that have nothing to offer me other than wasting my time.

Aside form that, it's likely any block against your service provider is in place due to the fact their mail servers are open relays and allow people to send unsolicited email to anyone they please without being a user of your ISP's network.

Unless your service provider configures their equipment properly and then notifies our NOC there is little we can or will do to allow the free transit of email as in Australia we have very high Internet costs.

Of course, if you pay me for the costs of running my services and receiving and reading your e-mail (which does cost me money) then I'd be happy to accept whatever you want to send me as often as you wish.

Comments: I apologize for the inconvenience to you. I guess I have to plead ignorance to the NSW state laws. Most people had thanked me for the message and the opportunity to be a part of our buyer's guide. I had gotten your email address from the IGWB International Gaming Resource Guide 2002. If you don't want people to send you email, perhaps you should think twice before submitting your email address to them. It is unfortunate that you have become so jaded and untrusting as a result of this spam situation. Many times email is the only way for me to contact companies/people, especially when they are located overseas. You have my assurance that you will no longer be contacted by any of our publications.
Thank you,

Josh Brown

Comments: I apologize for the inconvenience to you. I guess I have to plead ignorance to the NSW state laws. Most people had thanked me for the message and the opportunity to be a part of our buyer's guide. I had gotten your email address from the IGWB International Gaming Resource Guide 2002.

Who the hell are they? I've NEVER had an interest in gambling or gaming. So why on earth would I be listed in their resource directory.

Can't you see, it's PURE SPAM! I never opted to be part of their list. They have sold you my name and thousands of others fraudulently and now your blocked and because of the abuse of my and other peoples email address, won't be unblock for a very long time.

You just lost your potential to increase your business.

If you don't want people to send you email, perhaps you should think twice before submitting your email address to them.

Perhaps I never submitted my email address to them!

I've been on the Internet since 1986. My email address has been active since 1990. I never received spam until trawlers started taking addresses from web sites and mail list archives.

I get over 200 SPAM messages a week from people telling me I opted into their lists for everything from pharmaceuticals to penis enlargers to god only knows what.

You know what's most insulting, I set up a special email address relating to the kidnapping of my child. It's a ONE WAY address. You can only send to it, it has NEVER been used to SEND mail and it's NEVER been subscribed or submitted to ANYTHING. Explain to me how a special address, sensitive with the purpose it was created gets email for "improving your sex life" or "have to adopt children" or "how to enlarge your penis"

Do you think my wife who gets copies of the inbound email was thrilled? I don't think so. She was in tears for days and constantly breaks down because of the stupidity and insensitiveness of people like your IGWB who are a bunch of wankers extorting a resource that is good.

Incidentally I make films and develop Internet technology. Why on earth would I be interested in subscribing to receive marketing information. I HATE MARKETING CRAP!

I have operate virtual domain email space since 1996. That means every time I subscribe to a mail list since late 1996, I create a new email address. Lest say I subscribed to your mail list, I'd create an email address like:

joshbrown.gamingservices@my.special.domain.name

If you onsold that to someone else, you would immediately be put in a block list and the email address deactivated.

It's a shame that I'm actually forced to disable my original e-mail address because of the idiots who think it's cool to send SPAM. It costs me and every other Australian serious money. If you paid us to receive it, we'd care less. But obviously you use these lists because it's cheap and costs you next to nothing.

Good luck, but the world gets smaller when you abuse the technology.

If you use your e-mail address on a web page, expect more and more spam. Trust me, I test the farmers all the time. It's the easiest way to build a block list.

It is unfortunate that you have become so jaded and untrusting as a result of this spam situation.

Why shouldn't I? I've explained in brief the details above. People continue to abuse the resources, they should be banned form using them. One has to OPT-IN, not be opted in. There is no honest in OUT-OUT lists because I've got a domain name specially set up for testing opt-out lists to see how many new spam messages are received after "registering." Explain to me, why an email address that has NEVER BEEN USED, specially created with the domain name of the OPT OUT LIST in the e-mail address, suddenly gets SPAM!

Who do you think you are kidding?

Many times email is the only way for me to contact companies/people, especially when they are located overseas.

Then you have been disadvantage by people who abuse the system and you're effectively no better than them. The number of times I've thought about farming e-mail addresses and SPAMMING people to raise the urgently needed $100,000 I need to finish my feature film, got I reckon I could do it in two weeks with a million email addresses and everyone would do it for the kidnapped kid - right?

But I have integrity and I have ethics.

You have my assurance that you will no longer be contacted by any of our publications.

Maybe not yours but obviously IGWB will ensure my address is abuse many times more this year. <sigh>
